Five Things You Can Do To Improve The Effectiveness And Efficiency Of Invisalign Treatment

Undergoing orthodontic treatment by Invisalign requires an investment of both time and money. As such, you want to get as much as you possibly can out of every moment you're in treatment.

There are a lot of things you can do to speed up treatment and get the results you want faster. The following are five things you should either definitely do or at least look into to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of treatment:

Get used to wearing aligners 24/7

The number-one thing you can do to speed up treatment and ensure the best possible results is to wear your aligners all the time. This takes self-discipline. If you get lazy for one special occasion, that laziness can quickly lead to a complete undermining of your treatment.

It's easy to get into the habit of taking your aligners out too frequently before your treatment is finished. Don't let yourself be tempted to get lax about the percentage of time you're spending with your aligners in. The less often you have them in, the longer treatment will take, and the less effective it will be.

Use "chewies" to deal with fit issues between visits

Sometimes, patients using orthodontic aligners notice that gaps remain between their aligner and their teeth, even after they've had the same aligner for a while. Any gaps between the teeth and the aligner will result in less-effective treatment.

Ask your dentist or orthodontist about "chewies." These are cushions created from a plastic material that can be placed inside the aligner to tighten its fit and therefore enhance its effectiveness.

Use an accelerated treatment method when possible

If you're new to the Invisalign treatment method, you're probably not aware of the fact that there are certain accelerated treatment methods available that can speed up treatment time.

One such method is interproximal reduction. This involves sanding down certain teeth so that the teeth fit together better.

Use attachments to make sure that your aligners are properly placed

The orthodontic devices used in Invisalign treatment include not only aligners, but also attachments. These attachments are very important in maximizing the effectiveness of the aligners.

When you go in for an appointment, make sure you fully understand how your attachments should be lining up with your teeth so that you place your aligners properly every time.

Don't shirk on retainer use after you're finished

The worst thing you can do to ruin your treatment is neglect to wear retainers once you're all finished. Retainer use is highly important to achieving complete and lasting results.
