Preventing Tooth Decay To Maintain Healthy Teeth

Teeth Whitening Options For A Pageant-Worthy Smile

If you are planning to participate in an upcoming beauty pageant, you may be looking for ways to ensure that you look your best. Since you will be smiling during much of the event, the color of your teeth can be particularly important. As a result, you may be considering teeth whitening.

Teeth-whitening options can vary in effectiveness and efficiency. Some products whiten better and faster than others. Here are a few whitening options and what you can expect from them:

Grocery Store Whitening Products

There are multiple whitening products that you can obtain from a local grocery store, such as gum, toothpaste, whitening rinses and whitening kits.

Gum

Gum is probably not the best solo option if you are whitening your teeth for a pageant. Many whitening gums contain ingredients, such as sodium bicarbonate or titanium dioxide, to discourage dental staining, but they are typically not effective at producing dramatic whitening results. Thus, whitening gum is best used to help you maintain the whiteness achieved from other products.

Toothpaste

Like the gum, toothpaste is typically better for maintenance. In addition, if a paste does produce significant whitening, it usually requires a prolonged period to do so.

Rinses

Whitening rinses usually include peroxide to boost the whiteness of your teeth. However, they may also take a considerable amount of use before any whitening is noticeable.

Whitening Kits

Whitening kits tend to brighten the teeth more quickly than other grocery store options. Still, they do not work as quickly or effectively as professional dental bleaching products. If you plan to use a whitening kit before your pageant, be sure to start at least a month in advance.

The kits typically include an applicator, such as mouth tray, brush or strips, to place the product directly on the teeth.

Professional Whitening Products

Dental whitening products offered by a dentist tend to whiten quicker and more thoroughly than other whitening options.

Office Treatments

A whitening application can be applied by a dentist in his or her office. The dentist places the product on the teeth and often subjects it to a whitening lamp to ensure that optimal whiteness is achieved. Since a single application can result in several shades of whitening, if you only have a week or two before your pageant, an office treatment may be best.

Home Kits

At-home kits may be used to maintain the whiteness achieved through an office treatment or to further whiten the teeth. Still, although highly effective, these kits require more time than an office treatment
